Fraud ALERT: Watch Out For Scams!

old and new medicare cards

Medicare is in the process of issuing new Medicare cards to all Medicare beneficiaries. The new card will no longer contain the person’s social security number, which will decrease the possibility of identity theft if the card is lost or stolen. The new card will be sent automatically to every person on Medicare and there is NO charge for the new card. If someone calls or comes to your door saying they are from Medicare and requests money, personal information or your social security number in order to get your new card, DO NOT GIVE IT TO THEM….it is a scam. It will take Medicare a year to send out the new cards to 58 million beneficiaries. Be patient and open all of your mail from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services as it probably has your new card. Go to Medicare.gov for further information.
