Your Philanthropy at Work

Thank YOU for being a wonderful supporter of the Council on Aging. We believe wholeheartedly that we are on this journey together – YOU and the Council unified in a commitment to the independence, dignity and well-being of older adults and their families. While no two stories are the same, we all face challenges in our lives as we age. Scenarios like the ones below are examples of how we make an impact:
★ A woman had not bathed in a tub in over a year. She was unsteady and needed help.
Our response was to install grab bars and a transfer bench. Now she can bathe by
herself. She cried the first time she was able to do this.
★ A devoted husband caring for his wife with dementia who could not be left alone and
required continuous care received funding for respite services so he could hire someone
to support his wife so he could go grocery shopping and have time away.

Your gift, in any amount, will make a difference on this journey! YOUR gift can help provide meals, heat a home, install a grab bar, provide unbiased & informed health insurance options, and more! With YOUR support, we can make great strides to meet the road ahead and embrace the journey to AGING WELL together. Can we count on YOU?

With more than 70,000 people 60 and over in Buncombe County and over 10,000 people a day in the US turning 75, the need for community based resources is greater than ever. Perhaps you, too, have received support from Council on Aging – Medicare counseling, a ride to a doctor’s appointment, elder justice navigation, or support while you juggle work, home, caring for parents or spouses and children.

Your $100 donation allows us to provide essential service, such as:

  • 20 Shelf Stable Meals for homebound and vulnerable adults
  • 10 grab bars for Minor Home Repair
  • 3 hours of Medicare Counseling

In addition to direct service, we utilize unrestricted support to cover essentials approved by our Board of Directors for infrastructure, development and sustainability. We continue to strategically build programming and opportunities to engage staff and volunteers at the highest possible level for maximum service delivery. Whether it’s a matching gift for a government grant, program or personnel costs, we put your money to work transparently in the areas where it’s needed the most!

“The Senior Dining Program has been a lifesaver for us. My wife now has dementia and we come to this program for meals, exercise, and socialization. We try to never miss a day.”

– Walt Farris, Weaverville Senior Dining Participant
