The Extra Help Program – or Low-Income Subsidy Program (LIS) – helps qualified Medicare beneficiaries pay for their Medicare Part D prescription drug program costs, such as premiums, deductibles, copays, and coinsurance.
The Extra Help Program also provides these additional benefits:
- Elimination of the Part D coverage gap (donut hole)
- The opportunity to change your Prescription Drug Plan once in any calendar year quarter
- Elimination of a Late Enrollment Penalty if, when you apply for Extra Help, you haven’t already signed up for a Part D plan
People who have both Medicaid and Medicare will automatically qualify for Extra Help.
Medicaid may also cover certain drugs that Medicare does not.
