Council on Aging of Buncombe County was established in 1964 and is a 501(c)3 charitable organization that primaritly serves adults 60 or older in Buncombe County.

COA is hiring! We are seeking compassionate professionals with a heart for service to join our aging service team. We have a temporary part-time position and one full-time position available immediately. 

  1.  Minor Home Repair Specialist
  2. Affordable Care Act (ACA) Navigator

The Minor Home Repair Specialist will work with assigned clients who are referred to the Minor Home Repair program through the Council on Aging of Buncombe County. Most work will be completed in a variety of locations throughout Buncombe County. Some clients may also reside outside of Buncombe County. The MHR Specialist will complete safety-related minor home repairs and maintenance for older adults in their homes including, but not limited to: installing grab bars, air conditioning units, safety railings and other scheduled maintenance and repairs. There are no set weekly hours for this intermittent position. Hours are “as needed” and will work within your given availability. Temporary position with potential for ongoing employment. We are hiring immediately and the position is guaranteed through October 2021. High school diploma or GED required; must have at least 10 years experience in maintenance, construction, or related fields. Must have a proven ability to complete repetitive tasks and work related to this position. Must be 21 years of age or older, have a valid NCDL, reliable vehicle and proof of auto insurance (specific limits required).

The ACA Navigator provides service in a variety of community locations within an 8-county territory as assigned, but will target Henderson, Polk and Translyvania Counties. Travel for health fairs and meetings with partners is required. This position is grant funded. Hybrid in-person and remote work will be considered based on daily duties, due to COVID 19. The ACA Navigator reports to the ACA program Director, based out of the Council on Aging of Buncombe County primary office. General Function: To enroll clients in ACA insurance plans through the Health Insurance Marketplace and assist with ACA outreach in the WNC region that COAbc is assigned; build relations with partners and service providers. Oversee COAbc ACA volunteers assigned to your area. Minimum Qualifications: Graduation with an Associate’s Degree in a Human Services or applicable field and 1 or more years’ relevant experience. Preferred Qualifications: Graduation with a Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services or applicable field from an accredited college or university. We strongly prefer bilingual applications with at least 5 years’ professional experience servicing the Western North Carolina population in a related field.
