PROJECT EMMA (Eat better, Move More, Age well) renewed-
The Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC Foundation has renewed support for a second year for Project EMMA, a collaboration between COA, the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project, and the YWCA of Asheville-Buncombe County. EMMA II will continue subscriptions to Local food CSA’s which will be distributed to Senior Dining sites, Battery Park and Vanderbilt Apartments, and to participants of COA’s HFD (Home Food Delivery) service. Exercise classes will be expanded to twice weekly at dining sites and at Battery Park, and one time per week at Vanderbilt and Shiloh dining site; we are adding The Arthritis Foundation exercise program, and miniactivity. The rooftop garden at Battery Park will continue to be a year-long project with garden harvests and educational programming all summer long and into the fall season and planting beginning again in early Spring of 2009.
We will add Mini Health Module education programming at all EMMA sites, focusing on improving awareness of and accessability to health and disease management opportunities; we will begin developing a public access TV program on exercise and health tips from EMMA participants. Advocating for Farmers' Market coupon program in Buncombe County is needed to get funding to this region, and will be an ongoing effort of EMMA, as well.
