Peer Counseling

Volunteers receive training to assist older adults who need support as they transition from hospital to home, or those struggling with loneliness, loss, anxiety, etc.

The Council on Aging of Buncombe County announces our newest service/volunteer opportunity:
“Peer Counseling”. Funded by the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust as part of “Project Continuum CARE (Coordinating Care to At-Risk Elderly), Peer Counseling is being developed in collaboration with All Souls Counseling Center, and will provide trained Peer Counselors to assist older adults who need support as they transition from hospital to home, or those struggling with loneliness, loss, anxiety, etc.
Initially, recipients receive professional counseling from All Souls Counseling Center.  Volunteer peer counselors will be matched with clients for regular interaction over a period of several months to a year, depending on need.
All volunteers must complete an application and a background check.
Call the Council on Aging at (828) 277-8288 for more information.
